Pianoteq Steel Pans Add-On

Each instrument in the Steelpans Collection is provided with one preset faithful to the original instrument and several expressive variants.

Steel Drums
Originating in Trinidad and intimately tied to calypso music, the steel drum in Pianoteq combines features of the "double second," "tenor," "double guitar," and "triple cello" types. Its range covers four octaves, delivering authentic bloom and resonance.

Spacedrum
The Spacedrum is a recent variant of the Handpan and the first to be offered in a thirteen-note chromatic model, opening new possibilities for musicians. Both Spacedrum and Handpan instruments feature presets for hand playing and mallet playing and are extended to four octaves. Marc Guilliou from Metal Sounds, one of the Spacedrum creators, participated in testing the Pianoteq version to ensure its authenticity.

Tank Drum
The Tank drum, made from thicker metal from a gas tank, is modeled in Pianoteq with a 3 1/2-octave range.

Pianoteq 9’s enhanced physical model enriches these instruments with the characteristic “blooming” overtones produced by thin metal sheets. Two unique parameters, blooming energy and blooming inertia, allow precise control over the sound, providing exceptional playability and versatility. Refreshed Binaural presets offer an immersive headphone experience, letting players fully enjoy the spatial richness of each steelpan instrument.
